Department of Romance Studies
Students at the Department of Romance Studies are being prepared in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses of translating and interpreting (specialization French language and culture, Romanian language and culture, Portuguese language and culture, Spanish language and culture and Italian language and culture combined with other foreign languages), and of teaching academic subjects (French language and literature combined with other subjects).
Apart from this the department participates in doctoral courses of non-Slavic languages and literature. Within the translating and interpreting courses, acquiring necessary theoretical and methodological knowledge in theory, history and practice of translating and interpreting, as well as in culture and history of the countries of the language given is accentuated. Training in practical use of acquired knowledge and skills in the process of translating and interpreting is provided as an integral part of the course. The course ‘teaching of academic subjects’ is aimed at graduates’ being able to become qualified teachers at secondary and university levels. The courses provide knowledge and skills in the language and literature given within the broader social and cultural context so that graduates are able to use them in teaching and creating teaching aids and materials, as well as in more extensive activities in the sphere of culture.
