Department of Philosophy and of History of Philosophy
The department pursues research activities in different areas of philosophy: history of philosophy (from the ancient times until today), social and political philosophy, moral philosophy, epistemology, metaphysics. Most attention is focused on particular and specific issues of classical and modern philosophy. Analyses and translations of important philosophical texts represent an integral part of the course. The department offers courses on two levels - Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree, in two main disciplines: philosophy as professional course of study and philosophy as part of the course in Teacher Training in Academic Subjects (combined with other disciplines, e.g. aesthetics, history, pedagogy, Slovak language and literature, foreign languages). The third level of study (PhD.) is oriented on the programs of Systematic Philosophy and History of Philosophy. From the academic year 2005/06 a new programme of Ethics was introduced within the Bachelor’s degree study.
