The department pursues the research in linguistic and literary studies and in translating in all languages offered within the courses (German, Dutch, Swedish). More attention is being paid to intercultural and interdisciplinary connections and to research beyond the limits of the field. At present the department offers the two-level courses - Bachelor’s and Master’s - in two disciplines. In teacher training the program German language and literature combined with other specializations within the course is offered; in Translating and Interpreting the department offers such programs as German Language and Culture, Dutch Language and Culture, and Swedish Language and Culture, all of them combined with another language. The department offers postgraduate study (PhD.) in all disciplines in both internal and external form, as well as the postgraduate European Course of Conference Interpreting.
